About us

Abuse Support Network is here for anyone who has been abused, at any age and at any time in their life, and for the people who stand beside them.

Who we are

We are an information service for survivors of abuse. We explain, in plain English, the help and the routes to justice that exist, and we point you to organisations you can contact yourself. We are not a helpline, a counselling service or a law firm.

We also run a Legal Directory of solicitors who act for survivors, and we are building directories of medical experts and of people who offer training.

Why we exist

After abuse, finding the right help can feel like one more hard thing to do. Information is spread across many websites, some of it is out of date, and it isn’t always clear who can help with what.

We bring checked information together in one place, so you can understand your options and choose your next step, if and when you’re ready.

What we do

  • Explain your options: compensation, civil claims, redress schemes and the criminal process, in our guides.
  • Point you to support: our Support Directory lists helplines and organisations you contact directly, using their own details.
  • Explain the words: our glossary explains legal and medical terms you might come across.
  • Help you stay safe online: we explain how to cover your tracks.

What we don’t do

  • We give information, not legal or medical advice.
  • We never ask for your story, and we don’t keep it if you send it to us.
  • We can’t take on your case, and we don’t pass your details to anyone.
  • We are never paid for a case. Support organisations in our Support Directory are listed free of charge.
  • We don’t use third-party trackers on our pages.

Our promise to you

Whatever you decide to do, or not do, is up to you. We won’t pressure you. Every fact on this site is checked at its source, and we show you when we last checked it. Read more about how we check facts.

When you’re ready, the organisations in our Support Directory are there to talk to.
