Vicarious trauma training and looking after yourself at work
Vicarious trauma, also called secondary trauma, is when someone is affected by hearing, seeing or reading about other people’s traumatic experiences. In Great Britain, the Health and Safety Executive says employers have a legal duty to protect workers from stress at work by doing a risk assessment and acting on it. In Northern Ireland, HSENI says employers must assess risks to health, including mental health.
