Trauma-informed practice training and trauma courses
Trauma-informed practice starts from an understanding that trauma can affect a person’s development and their ability to feel safe or trust others, and it seeks to avoid re-traumatising them. A working definition published by the UK Government for health and care sets out six principles: safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, empowerment and cultural consideration. Scotland has a National Trauma Transformation Programme, Wales has the Trauma-Informed Wales Framework, and the Safeguarding Board for Northern Ireland supports its member agencies to take a trauma-informed approach.
